I have recently made the jump to attempting to learn some of Photoshop, and to start taking beautiful images to serve as templates for different works of art. This is easier said than done.
I immediately went out and bought a 400 page course book on the fundamentals of the Photoshop software. I am on page 1, and have been on page 1 for approximately 1 week. The idea of moving past page 1 has me absolutely terrified. While the software itself is not a monster hiding under the bed, the sheer volume of material to be covered is quite daunting.
So, I turned to the basics of photography, and again, purchased another book on photography as an art form. I dug my old DSLR out of the storage unit (about an hour spent sweating in a closed room stacked to the brim with boxes). Surprise! The battery is dead, the camera is 12 years old now, and the camera can't format a card larger than 32 GB ( a standard micro SD card holds about 250GB). So, challenges everywhere. A quick search by my husband revealed that we could purchase a battery charger, a lens cap, and a card reader all on the internet. We made these necessary purchases, and I now have a working DSLR.
I have read about 40 pages of my photography book, and have understood approximately 3 paragraphs of what I've read. The next step is to decode the settings on the camera, of which I currently in the process of learning. So far, I've managed to deduce the function of shutter speed and aperture. Next up, learning how to actually take a clear photograph. I have taken lots of fuzzy pictures without any character. I imagine this is going to be a process to learn.
So, I set out initially to be able to learn Photoshop. That reignited my interest in photography, and I am currently in the process of learning the ins and outs of my camera. Wish me the best of luck, because I am going to need it!
