While 2020 was never boring, I am sure many of us are ready for a return to normalcy. At the beginning of a new year, many of us will make resolutions for the new year to set the pace for how the year will go. In the spirit of this tradition, I have decided to become more adventurous in my artwork, branching away from that which I normally do. I invite introspection and soul searching as part of this project. My first piece of artwork for the year is started. I have also begun a 30 day painting journey with alumni from Tracy Verdugo's courses ( tracyverdugo.com ), which I intend to post here as I work on it. And lastly, I am excited to begin a new year long challenge with Tamora Laporte, pursuing the course Lifebook 2021 (see willowing.org for details). As the year progresses, we will paint, soul search, and ultimately come out on the other side with some new, inspired works of art.
The first marks of paint have been laid for the 30 day challenge. I will experiment with new techniques, develop new skills, and learn the important art of letting go. Thus has begun my 30 day paint challenge. During this particular month, we will work continuously, every day, on the same work of art. I will post pictures of my progress, disclose what was difficult or easy, and attempt to connect with my identity in a deeper, more profound way. The first challenge in getting started was to choose a palette. I am beginning with a cool palette, as I normally pursue bright warm colors for my artworks. It was scary at first, to lay down such dark colors on my beautiful blank canvas. I'm not sure yet what my next course of action will be. I have laid down the foundation for a challenge that will be sure to invoke as much frustrations as it will joy. Thus begins a near year with new challenges, and guaranteed growth.
See you on the other side!
Love, Bridget
